Ranch Overview

Arena ChaparrelGreenhorn Creek Guest Ranch is located in beautiful Plumas County, "The Friendliest County in California" between the historical towns of Graeagle and Quincy, just 70 miles from the Reno/Tahoe International Airport. The Ranch is also just miles from the scenic Feather River Canyon and the most rugged trans-sierra railroad line in California. This is truly a  western paradise for people who love horseback riding, fishing, swimming, hiking, mountain biking, fresh mountain air, blue skies, spectacular views, starry nights and unconditional relaxation! The spectacular and tranquil setting at Greenhorn offers you a wide variety of activities with the constant option of just doing nothing in a gorgeous place! Returning guests call it “magical”.

Estray Creek flows through the ranch, feeding two ponds and providing water for our herd. Both ponds are stocked with rainbow and brown trout, catfish and bass.   If you catch a fish and want to eat it - we'll cook it, though we do promote our catch & release fishing program.   Bring your own poles (we have a few poles) and buy some worms in the saloon and get ready to cast your line!  When you're not horseback riding, there's a ton of fun activities for all ages: horse drawn wagon rides, hiking & exploring, fishing, swimming, volleyball, roping and horseshoes.  During our summer season, we play team sports such as softball and volley ball and everyone enjoys our one-of-a-kind Guest Rodeo Games. Everyone wins in our rodeo games and all levels of experience are encouraged to ride!

The swimming pool is a great way to relax after a long trail ride.  Parents can watch their kids swim from the spacious deck area which  overlooks our pond, horseshoe pits and the corral. The pool is heated during the spring, summer and fall and is oh so refreshing!

It's Always a Great Time to visit Greenhorn!

Arena ChaparrelSpring Season – May, is a great time to visit the Ranch. First, you’ll enjoy our shoulder season discounts (up to 15% off peak season rates). We can accommodate any length of stay.  With the upper mountains still holding some snow, day time temperatures are comfortable, and evenings generally cool and crisp - perfect for bonfire sing-alongs. What makes spring riding so enjoyable are all the wild flowers and fresh spring growth that come out all over the mountains. And of course, the trails aren’t dusty and it’s less crowded this early in the season which means even more personalized attention for you!

Summer Season – June through August is our peak season. During this season, full week reservations are preferred but we also accommodate weekend, mid-week and day use guests as well. A full week usually means check in on Saturday before lunch, and check out the following Friday after a hearty cowboy breakfast, however we can customize your week long stay to fit any schedule!  Riding during the summer months is especially nice because the weather is sunny and warm during the day and very mild in the evenings. We do get occasional afternoon thunder showers, but they usually blow through and make the trails fresh. For families, this is also a good time since most other families with children visit during the summer.

Fall Season – our Fall Season is September through October.  During this time, you can enjoy the amazingly beautiful fall colors and  foliage on the ranch and in surrounding areas.    Rich reds, yellows, oranges, and a myriad of other brilliant color combinations make this time of year a must see!  We are delighted to announce that Greenhorn Ranch will be available for group leases through the entire Fall, Winter and Spring Seasons. Winter Season - Winters are very peaceful at Greenhorn Creek Guest Ranch. Our horses are moved to greener pastures as snow blankets the landscape!  Even though our horses are “vacationing” in the winter and our kitchen closes down, we do still have rooms available in the lodge for guests and our saloon & dance hall are still available for holiday parties, group events etc. Call for availability!
