Greenhorn Round Up

Running of the Horses

Greenhorn Gang - Wednesday, November 20, 2013

Straight in front of you stands the old west wooden horse corral bursting from its seams with the raw energy of eighty horses just waiting for release. It starts when you feel the ground rumble and hear the crack of the whip.

There is a symphony of whinnies and snorts as the ranch hand swings the gate open wide. Within seconds it begins - the Running of the Horses.

It is an amazingly beautiful thing seeing stampeding horses run by you. It evokes an unexpected emotion that is both tear jerking and stunning for the shear admiration of those horses.

Witnessing the Running of the Horses leaves you motionless and without words. It is something felt in your soul, and resonates deep within.

“A lovely horse is always an experience.... It is an emotional experience of the kind that is spoiled by words.” - Beryl Markham?

The emotional power that comes from the Running of the Horses coupled with a wedding ceremony at the Ranch, literally takes your breath away. It has become the signature mark of Greenhorn Guest Ranch with bands of horses and wedding rings.

Cued perfectly to the words, “You may now kiss your bride” the horses are freed and triumphantly gallop past the ceremony site and make their way back to the corral gates.

It is debatable which is more profound, the embrace of the bride and groom’s kiss or the horses that majestically run past them.

With the backdrop of the beautiful Sierra Mountains and surrounded by fragrant tall pines, Greenhorn Guest Ranch is undoubtedly the perfect setting for the most special day of your life.

The old west ranch setting is rustic, yet romantic. With the signature event of the Running of the Horses, a wedding at Greenhorn Ranch absolutely promises to create memories that will last a lifetime.

My family and I could not be more impressed with the property - and to witness the thundering hooves of the horses as they are released will truly take your breath away. Don't hesitate to make this ranch experience part of your life - you will never regret it, and you will be "champing at the bit" to return year after year, just as we do!
